yes no doubt it is another capitalist mechanism. Just like HD and every other technology to separate the haves and the have-nots is. every time the normal person can just about afford to do something creative and have it measure up "qualitywise" with the official culture industry's crap, another gadget or format comes along and the "industry" says oh you gotta have that and then you'll be pro quality or broadcast quality or whatever. it's all just bullshit to make people waste money and demoralize us to think we don't have what it takes.
Besides, film is not just expensive but also just a pain in the ass, in production and post-production. hell with it.
