AFI Daze

the scene:
hollywood blvd is just crazy this week, people everywhere, there's a show on every t.v. you go by it's called, Every Body Loves Obama. Funny too, Obama's older brother never get's love, Biden is that his name? serious tho, everyone i meet just wants to talk about our new prez and enjoy this moment. the high will come down, but for now, i'll just let it ride.
qwik play-by-play:
first day rush to check-in after long drive, go to the arclight theater for the CONNECT session. if anyone is out there wants advice about AFI- do CONNECT! do CONNECT! do CONNECT!- so far people seem to say nice things about the short and are receptive, hopefully good connects. one bad meeting, but heard other filmmakers say the same, guess there's always one pendejo in the apple barrel. night time was U.S. premiere of The Wrestler. awesome. must write a review soon. aronofsky still is brilliant. mickey rourke you're a sadist and an actor that's beyond any dedicated actor ever! legendary performance. just see it, you'll see.
second day- morning press junket went well, all web video interviews, those are my kind of people!! one reporter was israeli, she said great things about the short, great moment for me. CONNECT in the afternoon, made a promising contact. don't want to get my hopes up, but definitely will follow up, fingerzzzz crossed. nighttime is my screening at the arclight theater. whoaaa it looks fuckin awesome (con permiso mi francais). need to find out there projection. video never looked so good on the big screen (i'm biased tho). sound went out in the beginning, at least one thing has to go wrong at a screening. q & a was cool. matthew modine was there with his short. talked for most of the time, so that took the pressure of me, wheewwww... he did say he took some drugs tho, so dunno if that was so good. don't quote me please.
random thoughts:
the AFI Fest people are super nice. i can't say enough about that. however, so far i'm in a fillmmaker whiteout, feelin a bit lonely represtin la raza. AFI donde es los chicanos? it's kinda day-without-a-mexican around some of these fest parts, but walk outside on the streets, ahhhh like home again. i got mi esposa and mi cuñado with me and that makes me feel good. i need that right now. AFI people is really diverse tho, so props for the equal opp. shout out to ruben reyes for keepin that cine chicano alive in aziff, never realized how important that wuz til now. okay, that's it for now....

added almost forgot!:
i saw Takeshi Kitano's Achilles and The Tortoise. wow, another Kitano masterpiece. U.S. hasn't been showing his movies lately, real shame. if anyone gets a chance to find it or see it some where, anywhere, don't miss it.
