Mary Charlotte Thurtle has been a Pan Left member since 2000, during which time she has focused on documentaries about women and girls whose stories don’t get told in the mainstream media. She co-produced with Daniela Ontiveros The Heart and the Monster: A Journey to Cananea and produced Quince Años, a day in the life of Latinas on the 15th birthday, which was shown at the Arizona International Film Festival in 2005.
“Despite gains that some of us have made in the past thirty years, women and girls real-life stories and images are still absent from most media that people have easy access to," says Mary Charlotte. "Visually in the U.S., we are not represented as real people but as cultural stereotypes.”
Mary Charlotte has a degree in Anthropology from the University of Arizona and is working on a Masters of Arts at Prescott College. She is the Co-Executive Director of Pan Left.
